Welfare Officer Workshop
The Welfare Officer Workshop explores best practice in working with young people and provides clear guidance on implementing best practice and looks at how to address any gaps. This Workshop builds upon the ideas discussed during the Safeguarding Children workshops and is a compulsory course for any Child Protection Officer.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION
You need to be aware that, as a precondition of affiliation for the 2008/09 season, your club will need to have a designated CPO who has been registered with the County, has attended a WOW course and has both a valid CRB disclosure and Safeguarding Children certificate. Failure to have a suitable person in position will result in the club being unable to affiliate with us until such time that this condition has been met.
Workshop Outline:
In accordance with Government legislation (Children and Vulnerable People’s Act 2006) from the 2008/09 season, all Senior and Intermediate status clubs as well as women’s/girls’ and youth clubs will be required to have at least one designated Child Protection Officer (CPO). You will be aware that this is a current requirement under the Association’s club status criteria but this Act will formalise the situation and will require the CPO to have undergone the appropriate training.
Middlesex County Football Association is committed to helping you and your club to meet this legislation by offering support in the appointment and development of your CPO.
Within this Workshop, the role and responsibilities of the Welfare Officer are identified and explored along with other designated persons, such as the statutory agencies. The focus is on becoming a proactive/club/league in terms of safeguarding initiatives rather than being reactive.
It also seeks to build confidence in dealing with poor practice and concerns about potential child abuse via scenarios. Workshop participants are encouraged to share examples of best practice and learn from each others experiences.
Preconditions:
• Valid CRB disclosure (a copy must have been sent to The AFA)
• Valid Safeguarding Children/Child Protection certificate (a copy must have been sent to The AFA)
• A completed CPO details form for the club sent to The AFA)
Workshop Duration: 3 hours
Cost: £15
