Small Sided Football

Small sided football has become one of the most popular versions of the game in recent years with people having more commitments, small sided football allows for people to still be involved in football.

In 2002, 4.4 million adults played small-sided football, with over a million involved in league or cup five-a-side. The numbers have risen year on year since, especially with the growth of purpose built facilities.

The FA has continued to support the growth of the game by establishing specific governance processes, standards of provision, relationships with commercial providers.

Mini-Soccer is football for the under 10's, introducing them to the game in a way that mirrors the full sized game.

In addition, the country has seen a steady growth in Futsal, a more disciplined version of small-sided football with two match officials, a heavier ball and stricter laws. Schools, in particular, are being encouraged to participate in Futsal so players learn discipline at an early stage.
