The AFA is responsible for setting standards and values to apply throughout the game at every level. Football belongs to, and should be enjoyed by, everyone equally. Our commitment is to confront and eliminate discrimination.

The AFA has been awarded the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard for Sport.

The Equality Standard for Sport is a nationally recognised framework that assists CFAs with embedding equality at the highest level of its organisation, and communicating and sharing its commitment with its staff and stakeholders. It also provides a framework to review how a CFA is organised around equality in relation to its service delivery, workforce, policies, procedures and compliance against the Equality Act 2010.

The achievements also support key tactics and targets under Football’s Inclusion and Anti-Discrimination Action Plan 2013-17.
On notification of the award Chief Executive Officer for AFA Mike Brown said:

“We are delighted to have achieved the Foundation Level of the Equality Standard. This award shows to the AFA and wider community that we are committed to providing football for all whether as a player, coach, referee or an administrator and are proud to have achieved it. It is our first award of this type so we are very proud. However, the work doesn’t stop here and moving forward we will be setting up an Inclusion Advisory Group for football within the AFA.”
