Dorkinians FC Youth- Fundraising for World Cancer Day

Dorkinians FC Youth raise £700 on World Cancer Day

Over 80 youth footballers turned out at Meadowbank on Monday night to support a young fundraiser and mark World Cancer Day. Ryan Troop who plays for Dorkinian Under 8s Football team, was diagnosed with a rare brain tumour last year and had brain surgery, chemo and radio therapies at the Royal Marsden and St Georges Hospitals. Ryan who is 8 and lives in Dorking, has responded well to treatment and following a clear MRI scan got to ring his End of Treatment Bell last Thursday. Ryan wanted to do something to help other children fighting cancer and as he loves playing football matches came up with the idea of a mini tournament instead of the usual training session.

Ryan's Mum & Dad, Laura and Andrew coach the U8 team and helped him organise the event and they were joined by Dorkinian Under 9s & 11s to make it an evening of footballing fun! Andrew said “£750 was raised on the night and Ryan will donate this to the Royal Marsden & Kingston-based Momentum charities, who have helped him during his 18 month long fight. Many thanks to all the Dorkinians Coaches, Parents, AFA, Surrey FA, Meadowbank and Waitrose for their support”. If you would like to contribute to the please search 'Stand by Ryan' on JustGiving.”
