Coaching in Education

As the nation's favourite sport, football plays a key role within schools, colleges and universities.

Since the government made a major announcement on School PE & Sport, which will see £150m per annum invested into Primary Schools ring-fenced for the provision of high quality PE & Sport, The Football Association has committed to creating a PE & Coaching in Education Unit to support those delivering association football in an educational setting.

The Association for PE (afPE) has clear guidance on workforce qualifications for coaches working in the school environment. In partnership with 1st4Sport Qualifications, they have developed a bespoke vocational qualification to provide a recognised professional learning pathway for coaches.

Any adult supporting teachers in physical education or school sport capacity should be qualified to a Level 2 National Governing Body (NGB) Award and working towards a Level 3 Certificate in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport (L3CSDPESS) or equivalent." (afPE, March 2013).
